Changes in Mortgage Master v1.1 for Windows provides the following over v1.0:
- Speeded up the display of dialog boxes by specifying them as preload. They
are loaded as the program is started up and are immediately available.
This makes Mortgage Master 10-100 times faster the first time you run it
from a diskette and slightly faster from hard disk. Memory impact is less
than 5K.
- Added an "Equity vs Balance" function complete with a multi-color pie
chart graphically showing where you stand on the mortgage.
- On the "Cost of Loan" dialog box we added a multi-color pie chart which
graphically shows the portion of your total payments applied to principal
and the portion applied to interest over the lifetime of the loan.
- On the "Remaining Balance" dialog box we added a multi-color pie chart
which graphically shows the percentage of principal you have paid off
based on the number of payments made.
- Made minor changes in the menus per our user's requests (adding ... to
indicate another menu follows etc).
- Touched up and expanded the built-in help. Several new pages were added.
- Performed additional compatibility testing for Windows 3.1 (you're going
to love Windows 3.1!).
- Tested dialog boxes and graphics to ensure compatibility in video modes
from EGA through Super VGA (up to 1024x768). This required minor touch-ups
in the item placements and lengths of some fields.
- Touched up the menu access to "Help Index" to make it easier to use.
- Changed the maximum term to 30 years versus 50 years. The built-in math
accuracy limitations created problems if you used the maximum principal,
maximum interest, AND maximum term all in a single calculation.
- Added a "Tax Time" menu option. The first function added under this item
is a yearly principal and interest function. This should be very useful
at tax time. Any other suggestions for this area?
- Added more validity checking to dialog boxes (like limiting the term to
two digits for 1-30 years).
- Made several of the fields longer to better display the maximum length
numbers.
- Added default loan information (principal, term, and rate) to the
mortgage comparisons display.
- Speeded up writing the amortization schedule to a file by 10-20% through
the use of high speed register variables.
- Other minor general speed-ups due to more efficient coding of routines.
- Touched up the MM.DOC file for added clarity in several areas.
- Greatly expanded the optional hardcopy Mortgage Master manual.
- Corrected a problem where under very rare conditions the help called from
a dialog box could be overwritten on the screen by the dialog box it was
called from. This is a one in a thousand case that was reported and
corrected immediately.
- Added additional range checking on the "What if?" calculations for the
calculated interest principal, rate, term, and payment. Also added
additional range error messages.
- Replaced the "What if?" term iterative math routines with high speed log
functions. This resulted in a 10X speedup for this function. Also expanded
the error message on find term to tell you when interest was greater than
payment or term exceeded the maximum allowable term.
- Speeded up the "What if?" find rate function through the use of high speed
register variables. Should be 5-10% faster. Also improved their accuracy
and added additional error messages.
- Greatly expanded the range, speed, and accuracy of the number rounding
functions allowing larger values of principal, interest, and payment
for the "What if?" function without introducing minor rounding errors
caused by the larger numbers.
- We purchased an installation program for distribution with the registered
version. Registered users now receive a Windows based installation program
to totaly automate the installation process (including creating groups).
We have verified it works correctly under Windows 3.1 also!
